Nigel Haworth (from New Zealand, pupil from 1963 - 1969)	19-01-2004 I would just like to add a note to the sad story of Carol Arnold in the 'Departed Friends' section of the website. I have particularly clear, fond memories of Carol, for we both joined KGS in arrears in terms of Latin and she and I were required to spend two terms (I think) in tutorials with Miss Morris so that we could catch up. I remember it as a difficult experience, elleviated only by Carol's good humour and kindness. Linda Davis (formerly pupil Linda Kidd)	23-02-2002 Carol went on to Norwich University where she met her husband Chris Smith. They lived in Durham for a while and Carol taught English in Newcastle. When Chris got a job with Avon County Council they moved to Bristol and Carol taught at Merrywood School. Carol's first brush with cancer came when she was 30 but sadly the family had worse to come. Carol and Chris had two sons Matt and Ben. Matt had a tumour on his optic nerve when he was six years old. The treatment he received meant there was always a possibility of further problems. The family moved and Carol became head of English at a school in Stroud. Carol and Matt both fought cancer a second time, Matt died in 1992 and Carol died 18months later in 1994. Sharon (Gingell) McQuarrie and Linda (Kidd) Davis went to Carols funeral which was extremely emotional as of course so many of those present had been to Matts funeral 18 months earlier aware even then that Carol was ill. Everyone who spoke at the funeral had such lovely memories of her, few had memories that went back to Kingswood Grammar School. If you were at KGS when Carol was there you would probably remember her beautiful big brown eyes. Linda Kidd (Pupil 1962 - 1969).
